Viterra operates a storage and handling network spanning key growing regions in South Australia and Victoria, servicing more than 5,000 grower-customers.
Their goal was to make it easier for growers to do business. The plan was to integrate their website and online portal into one convenient mobile app, allowing users to check pricing,
site information, transfer stock, view stocked tonnes and receive notifications on key information during harvest. To streamline, combine and simplify multiple processes.
Viterra works very closely with their growers to really understand their needs. This synced well with our approach of striving to really understand the user, challenge assumptions, and redefine problems to identify alternative strategies and solutions that might not be immediately obvious. Viterra gave us a lot of knowledge about their industry, it was essential to immerse ourselves in their world, in order to create products that were truly functional for the user.
We were able to identify what was most important to growers and what wasn’t, where and when they would use the app, and other apps they used (and liked).
The app also needed to solve business problems for Viterra themselves. One major issue was the huge costs related to sending a large amount of daily SMS messages to customers. By implementing a robust, flexible and reliable push notification system, we could solve this issue and significantly cut overall costs and resources required to communicate with customers.
We also worked closely with Viterra to integrate multiple existing systems as well as preparing for any planned future developments.
The final product is an intuitive and informative app that makes business easier for growers, allowing them to sell and transfer their grain, check stock, prices and site information quickly and easily, while balancing the business needs of Viterra. The positive feedback from growers across the state has been overwhelming.
The ROI from implementing the app has has been significant, resulting in extensive savings in sms costs alone. Since the initial release, the
app has evolved, and we have made several updates and tweaks as required. When Viterra went through a rebrand, we were there to replicate the new style and feel into the app ready for users.
This project has been a highlight for our team and working collaboratively with Viterra ensured a successful outcome. Like us, they are a passionate team of individuals who challenge assumptions, put in the research and work hard to make people’s lives easier.
